Are you missing out on the power of prayer?

admin

Over the last few years, I’ve been convicted of the depth of my prayer life. Yes, I’ve been following Christ since I was in High School. Yes, I’ve been a Pastor’s wife for almost twenty-five years. Yes, I write devotions and lead millions of women online towards Jesus. And yes, I’ve been praying that entire time. But when it comes down to it, what has the depth of my prayer life really been like? Has prayer just been another spiritual discipline I checked off each day? As I started really thinking through my personal prayer life, I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing. Or really, that I was missing something.

So, a few years ago I started being more intentional about prayer and really reading every resource I could to understand what prayer looked like for different denominations and throughout church history. As I grew in my knowledge of prayer and actually put what I learned into practice in my own prayer life, I was moved by the sacredness of prayer and the power of this intimate time with God.

In Ephesians 6:18 Paul says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Throughout the Psalms, we are privy to the beautiful prayer life of David. His ongoing conversation with God is so rich because we see the emotion, the agony, the joy, and the hope he feels. And although God doesn’t always answer in the way David wants, David says in Psalm 116, “I love the Lord for He heard my voice, He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.” I want to be like David.

And then, of course, we see the most powerful example of someone who really understood the power of prayer from Jesus himself. In His darkest moment, in the Garden of Gethsemane, what does He do? He prays. Luke 22:44 says, “And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly.” Jesus’ response to suffering was to go directly to His Father.

The truth is a lot of us forget to pray or don’t pray enough simply because we don’t understand how powerful it really is. If we knew the power of prayer, it would be the first thing we go to all the time.

So, I want to invite you on a journey with me as I share some of the things I’ve learned about prayer and how you can practically implement prayer into your life this Summer with my study, Learning to Pray. It is a simple 10-day journey that opens up to the public on June 6th. You’ll have access to all the videos, the workbook, and a special prayer guide to go through at your own pace. Throughout this course, we will be answering the questions, What is prayer?, Why do we pray?, How should we pray? And How do we pray? My hope is that you leave my course, Learning to Pray with a deeper understanding of the importance of prayer and you are moved to spend more time with God as a result of that deeper understanding.
