Holiday Apps You Should Download: Get Organized for the Holidays, Part 1

admin

Today on the Clear Your Clutter Inside & Out blog, I’m talking about apps to help you get organized, clear clutter and have peace of mind for the holiday season!

Are you overwhelmed when it comes to planning holiday meals?  Do your nerves get frayed with challenging people when you would rather be celebrating? Would you like to be more organized in your gift giving?

Be sure to check out my 3-part series on holiday apps.  The other two blog posts are on October 28th and November 1st.

Apps are a great way to help you stay organized, clear some clutter and find peace of mind.  Apps can be clutter as well, so make sure you are culling the apps on your phones and tablets on a regular basis.  You will probably have to play around with them and see what suits you the best, but here are some to get you started.

Remember to step away from the screen. I had my eye exam and my eyes have gotten worse. My ophthalmologist recommended every 20 minutes looking away for 30 seconds to a minute. My husband had 20 20 vision until this year. He sits in front of a computer screen all day. This PSA is over!

On to the apps!

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Years, Solstice.  All the holidays involve food! That is one of my favorite things. I believe we would have a better world if we sat down and broke bread and got to know one another over food.

Here are some apps that can help you with meal planning, shopping lists and recipes:

Mealime is great for meal planning and creates user-friendly customizable meal plans.

Pepperplate organizes your recipe collection, plans meals based on your recipes, creates shopping lists, and helps you cook the recipes you want to try.

Eat this Much is a calorie counter and meal planner.  The $5 a month version unlocks a lit of great features.  The app creates a macronutirent range for you. If you want to stay on your healthy eating plan this holiday season, this is a great tool.

With over one million recipes in its database, Yummly is the ultimate resource for chefs looking to whip up some fresh ideas. Filter app searches by prep time, nutrition or type of cuisine, then save favorites to your “Yums,” a virtual recipe box.

Timer+ is a simple free timer app that can run multiple countdowns at the same time. That means you can have a timer for your turkey, stuffing, side dishes and pie running simultaneously to keep your cooking on track.

This free wine app can help you out if you’re tasked with bringing a bottle to your Thanksgiving dinner or any other holiday event. Just scan the label of any wine you find at the store and Vivino gives you ratings and reviews, average price in your area, plus the country and area of origin.

For Thanksgiving, the In the Kitchen, the Food Network’s app, has a special page of Thanksgiving recipes, including turkey, mashed potatoes, cocktails, appetizers and desserts. Each recipe gives you user ratings, difficulty level, cooking times and number of servings. Those stats make it easy to browse for, say, an easy stuffing recipe that you can make in 40 minutes or a complicated turkey preparation.

BigOven offers a database of 500,000+ delicious recipes. Need to meal plan? Drag-and-drop recipes onto a calendar for a day, a week, or a month. You can also share recipes via email, Facebook or Twitter and scan in written recipes that the app converts to digital text.

What kitchen apps can you try? What are your biggest needs for apps during the holidays?
