July 2022 Share Four Somethings

admin

Let me paint a picture for you of my current situation. Late Saturday evening (actually early Sunday morning), I arrived home at 2:00 am from She Speaks after some delayed flights. Less than 12 hours later, I was on the road for a week of camping with my kids on the west side of Michigan. My oldest is currently attending a summer dance intensive at The Grand Rapids Ballet, and me and the other three have been exploring the area and spending lots of time at the pool. However, as of my writing this, it is Wednesday morning, and I am sitting in the lobby of the local movie theater while my kids are watching a free summer kids movie, and I have some much-needed quiet time and good wi-fi. Bless these 2 hours! So, here we go with July 2022 Share Four Somethings!

What is Share Four Somethings?

Share Four Somethings is a monthly link-up that I started back in 2018. The concept is to share the same four topics every month as a way to look back and recap your month. While some topics have changed over the years, some have remained. (I’m looking at you, Something Loved!) I have enjoyed this monthly reflection as well as getting to know the others who have joined me on this adventure.

The link-up opens on the 4th Saturday of every month and stays open for one week. The topics for 2022 are Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Braved (and NEW option Something Saved), and Something Achieved. If you want to learn a little more about the topics we will be writing about in 2022; you can read more about them at Share Four Somethings in 2022.

Something Loved

There is so much I loved over the last month! I loved She Speaks! It was a powerful and impactful conference, and I have so much to process from it. My oldest also turned SIXTEEN at the beginning of this month and is officially a licensed driver. I loved celebrating her and watching her friends love on her. However, our two-week National Parks trip was probably the most loved thing. We started at the end of June, but it went into the beginning of July, so it technically can still count! We visited the Great Smoky Mountains, Congaree, New River Gorge, Shenandoah, and Cuyahoga. It was a much shorter trip than last year, but we felt like we were able to see and experience a lot. However, we all did agree that the east just can’t compare to the west.

Also another thing I am loving is my husband’s bottle Brumate. The “kids” got it for him for Father’s Day, but I have enjoyed using it for my afternoon Topo Sparkling water. It keeps it amazingly cool and refreshing to the last sip! I may have loved it so much that I also then ordered the slim can Brumate!

Something Gleaned

I’ve taken in so much information this month that I’m not quite sure what to share with you. Of course, I could write pages about She Speaks, but honestly, if you are a called creative, invest in yourself and purchase the online replays of She Speaks.

Last week I read Jennie Allen’s new book, Find Your People. I really appreciated Jennie’s vulnerability in sharing where she had fallen short of being a good friend. I also liked the tips and action steps in the back of some of the chapters on how to find your people. There was a lot that I underlined, but I think these few sentences sum it up nicely:

Investing in relationship is not about pursuing our own happiness. It’s not just so that we can have friends to go to dinner with when we feel lonely. It’s so that we can be effective for eternity. It’s so that people will come to know Christ because of our love.  – Jennie Allen, Find Your People

I also signed up for the free online Bible Study of Find Your People on Faith Gateway in August. There are some cool freebies just for signing up for the free online study. I am looking forward to gleaning more about finding your people!

Something Braved or Saved

I saved this recipe for Summer Rolls on Instagram. I admit I haven’t made them yet… but also, I’ve only been home like ten days in July. Our town has a restaurant that makes something similar, and I love them. These looked so delicious and easy to make. So here is the Summer Rolls post. It includes the recipe for the rolls and peanut sauce! I can’t wait to try them!

Something Achieved

Earlier this month, we met with one of our church’s elders. We are now officially members! It was a longer process than I anticipated – three meetings with different pastors at the church, a workbook (which you didn’t need to turn in, but more just for your own knowledge), and then a meeting with an elder. I am happy to have made the commitment, and now I can check it off my “to-do” list! We had done the meetings at the church last year, and I had listed “becoming a member” as one of my January goals. LOL. Some things just take longer than expected.
