Organizing Holiday Cards to Send This Year, part 3

admin

This is the final blog in the 3-part series on decluttering and organizing your holiday cards. The first two blogs were on October 14th and 18th.  Make sure you check out all this month’s blogs for a stress free holiday.

This blog will focus on ways to save money and reduce stress when doing holiday cards.

Ways to Save Money When Organizing Holiday Cards to Send Out

We belong to Costco and if you order photo cards early, you can save money.  You can create customized cards inexpensively with Costco as well. You can always stock up at post holiday sales for next year’s holiday card.

When ordering cards, skip extras like colored envelopes as they increase the price. The envelope is usually recycled immediately.

Shop around. There are quite a few options for printed photo cards. If you do the leg work now, when you’re ready, you can easily create your card.

Make your own.  You can really get creative these days. Hallmark has software to make your own cards.

Don’t Stress!

If you can’t get out your holiday cards out early, get them out late.  New Year’s Eve is okay. It doesn’t all have to be done by 25th? How about Christmas in July! When I worked in Acadia National Park we celebrated Christmas in July. The national parks do this because most parks are closed during Christmas.

Don’t kill yourself to meet a deadline.  Even if all you do is create your card list you will be ahead of the game for next year!

Alternatives

If you don’t want to send cards, create a video. YouTube is free and you can privately record a video. If you want to get fancy, you can use iMovie on a Mac and edit in transitions, words, etc.

Send out an Email newsletter with photos.  On line is free: saves time, money, trees. Some options are Blue Mountain, E-cards,

Don’t forget to recycle the cards you receive. If you aren’t saving the cards (and I really encourage you to judicious about the cards you save!) you can repurpose the fronts usually as gift tags for next year. One less thing to worry about and purchase!

Take Aways from the blog series on organizing holiday cards:

  • Start now.  Establish a deadline when you want cards sent out. Work back from there and chunk down to manageable steps.
  • Think outside the box; send New Year’s Eve cards, Christmas in July.  If you cant get everything done by the 25th don’t stress.
  • Sending on line cards or emailing newsletters can save you money, time and trees!  Consider simplifying your holidays.

What steps can you begin to start your holiday cards? Are you interested in an eCard? How about mailing out your card on New Year’s?
