Opened in September 2020 by former staff from Peony Jade (including ex-executive chef Lee Hee Min, ex-sous chef Joe Liu, ex-restaurant manager Connie Chee), all of whom were released due to restaurant closures during the pandemic, Fortune Court had an initially rocky start, but has since settled into business nicely. Reowned for their refined Chinese Cantonese dishes, particularly with seafood, Fortune Court is a good dining destination of choice.

Ambience at Fortune Court is modern and elegant. The cozy space only seats up to 38 people, making advance reservations a must. Wide mirrors along one wall create a sense of space, while the comfortable furnishings lend well to lingering meals. Sleek chandeliers with warm lights, intricate patterned partitions, and some faux flowers complete the welcoming look.
Service at Fortune Court is professional and attentive. Led by restaurant manager Connie Chee, staff demonstrate sharp efficiency in their tasks, from greeting and seating guests, explaining signature dishes, to quickly cleaning up when diners are done. With the limited seating, staff are able to accord diners personalised attention, ensuring you're comfortable throughout the meal.
Food at Fortune Court is refined Chinese Cantonese cuisine, with a highlight being seafood dishes. The kitchen is headed by chefs Lee Hee Min and Joe Liu, serving the same delicious signature dishes they're known for, but at more affordable prices. Portions are designed for communal group dining of between 2 to 4 persons. Prices are more affordable than before, budget about SGD $49 per person.

Started with Chef's Signature Soft Shell Crab (SGD $11.80), featuring deep-fried soft shell crab tossed with pork floss, oats / cereal, curry powder, and other spices. Crisp with a crunchy bite, the crab carries a wild explosion of savoury salty spice flavours, with a sharp spicy kick at the end. Good!

With the Salted Egg Prawn Ball (SGD $15.80), Chef has used his own blend of fish paste with diced prawns, rather than a whole prawn / shrimp like elsewhere. This gives it a soft juicy crunch, much softer in texture than elsewhere. The salted egg yolk sauce is rich and creamy, with mild salty savoury sweet spice flavour, however, it's missing that addictive kick. Personally felt this was rather tame overall. Could be improved.

A house variation of Three Cups Chicken, we loved this rendition of Chef's Three Cups Beef (SGD $17.80), it was so yummy. The diced beef is tender, juicy, and succulent, with a springy satisfying bite. Along with crisp red onions, red bell peppers / capsicum, and basil leaves, the beef has been marinated in sesame oil, Shaoxing rice wine, and light soy sauce, along with black pepper. Each mouthful carries punchy meaty savoury sweet salty herbal nutty spice flavour, delicious. Best paired with white rice. Highly recommended!

The Grouper Deep-Fried With Superior Sauce (SGD $5.75 per 100g, $51.80 for 900g) is generous in size, deep-fried till perfection. The grouper fish remains crisp and firm on the exterior, giving way to reveal the moist flaky fish meat interior. Top grade superior blend of soy sauce is used, along with aromatics in the form of fresh spring onions, minced garlic, and coriander. Has a touch of herbal spice to the deep flavours of savoury salty sweet, yum. Price is reasonable too. Good!

The Crab Steamed With Egg White & Garlic (SGD $9 per 100g, $90 for 1kg) arrived and evoked awe, weighing in at 1.3kg. The giant Sri Lankan crab is incredibly meaty and fresh, steamed to perfection with a base of wobbly soft egg, minced fresh garlic, minced fried garlic, coriander, and light soy sauce. The egg is succulent, with bold eggy sweet salty spice flavour, enticing the palate. The crab is so fresh, the meat coming cleanly off, with bold sweet savoury flavour. We were also super lucky to find this crab had roe, and more roe than usual, super luxurious. Loved the consideration of the restaurant to provide a full set of crab utensils too. Highly recommended!

Chef's signature X.O. Lobster Ee Fu Noodles (SGD $42.80) remains as good as ever. The star is actually the silky smooth ee fu noodles, tossed with lobster stock, dark soy sauce, pork lard, and minced garlic, till infused with the essence, each mouthful a burst of salty savoury herbal sweet flavour. The lobster is large and fresh, with a good amount of bouncy tender lobster meat, being sweet salty savoury in taste. You'll need to dig to the bottom to find crispy bits of pork lard, so give this a good stir. An overall tasty rendition. Good!

Quite intrigued by the Seafood Fried Rice With Silver Fish (SGD $13.80), a showcase of the skill in wok hei / breath of the wok, with its subtle smoky aroma. Being fluffy, moist, and well seasoned, the fried rice is al-dente, tossed with cucumbers, eggs, and diced deshelled prawns / shrimp, resulting in a lovely grainy eggy vegetal sweet savoury flavour. The generous topping of crisp crunchy fried silver fish lends a contrasting texture with pleasant sweet salty savoury flavour. So addictive, kept reaching for more. Will be happy to order this again. Highly recommended!
