Price Alert: This Pork Cut and Chicken Just Got More Expensive

admin

There are some dishes that no matter the season, you crave and want to eat on a weekly basis. However, with gas prices skyrocketing which affects not only the vehicles you drive to go to the palengke and supermarket but also the gas you use to flame up your gas stove, food prices are also likely to see a bump in prices as well.

The good news is that the prices of basic commodities which include food such as rice, meat, fish, and other palengke ingredients have yet to see a drastic spike. However, it may not last long. You might soon see a price increase of sardines and other canned goods. While the government predicts it will take three months at least to see the effect of the European conflict on local prices, taking note of these price increases is always good budgeting practice, especially if you're shopping for ingredients every week.

If you're thinking of making your special pork and chicken adobo this week, take note of these price increases to pork kasim and whole chicken. An increase of P10 or even P5 may not seem like a big difference, think of how many kilos of meat you use per dish per week and the amount becomes more significant.

The price increases are not many but it's still a good idea to see the budget changes you may have to make to your daily and weekly menu, especially if there are ingredients that lowered its prices this past week:

These palengke prices are sourced and gathered only from these markets in these areas in the metro: Commonwealth, Guadalupe, Las Piñas, Malabon, Marikina, Mega Q-Mart, Muntinlupa, Muñoz, Pasay, Pasig, Pritil, Quinta, and San Andres.

For more information about the price monitoring of selected agricultural and fishery commodities in the metro by the Department of Agriculture, visit Price Watch on the government agency's website

Price Alert is a weekly roundup of the prices of common goods and other ingredients monitored using the Department of Agriculture's Price Watch.
