I have been wanting to make sura puttu for a long time. Satheesh loves it so much and he orders it in restaurants whenever he sees this one on the menu. But in restaurants they add very little amount of fish and increase the quantity of onions and coconut. When we make shark puttu at home you can increase the amount of fish as per your liking.

1)Dont skip to squeeze the water from the fish. This way the sura puttu stays nice and dry.

2)Adding lots of onions and green chillies adds nice flavour.

3)Dont saute the onions too much for sura puttu.

4)You can add pepper powder and cumin powder in the end of cooking.

Ingredients
  • Shark / Sura - 500 grams
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp + 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - cup
  • Coconut Oil - 3 tblsp
  • Onion - 1 large chopped finely
  • Green Chillies - 5 chopped finely
  • Curry Leaves a handful
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblsp
  • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Coconut - cup
  • Coriander Leaves a handful
Instructions
  1. Take shark fish in a pot., add salt and turmeric powder. Add water and boil it for 7 to 10 mins. Drain it.
  2. Cool completely. Now squeeze the excess water from it. Crumble it and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pot, add in onions, chillies and curry leaves. Saute for 2 mins.
  4. Add in spice powders and salt.
  5. Add in fish and toss well.
  6. Add in coconut and mix well.
  7. Cook on a medium low heat for 10 mmins till it gets little crispy.
  8. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  9. Serve.
Notes
