Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

I am always complaining that I can’t find anything in my closet and trying to put together outfits when I’m in a hurry.  I’m not sure what the remedy is, but my interest was piqued when I read about the Stylebook app.

Stylebook has some pretty great features:  You can catalog your entire wardrobe in one place, and collage individual pieces together to make complete outfits.  It has a calendar to keep track of what you wear and when.  You can then see the stats on what you wore and how often at the end of the season. That’s a great tool to use when paring down your closet.  You can create packing lists and wish lists for items you need.  You do have to be willing to invest lots of time upfront, but the reviews I’ve read claim that it’s well worth it. It is only available for Apple devices. https://www.stylebookapp.com/

For iOS – $4.99

I love Oyster Sauce, but I use it with specific Chinese take-out and then the open bottle sits in my fridge until my children go on an expiration date rampage and throw it out.  I decided I wanted to know what else I can use it for.

What is oyster sauce?  It is a delicious, thick, rich, umami tasting, sweet and salty sauce that is used in Chinese cooking. It is made from oyster extract, but it tastes nothing like oysters, or fish at all. It tastes like barbecue sauce that has soy sauce added to it.  It is very dark brown and used in both meat and vegetable dishes, usually Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisines.  It costs about the same as soy sauce.  Because it has a velvety texture, foods that it is added to look glossy.  The taste is intense, so a little goes a long way.

Uses for Oyster Sauce:

  • Stir-fry recipes
  • Marinades
  • As an Asian barbecue sauce
  • As a glazing sauce, especially on roast chicken thighs
  • Drizzle over grilled pork, steamed or sauteed vegetables

Oyster Sauce is easy to buy.  It is most often sold in bottles, but sometimes in cans. A popular brand is Lee Kum Kee.  $9.15.
