*Information regarding my recipes adapting to the new program is at the bottom of the post*
Its here friends! If you have been a WW member for a long time like myself (20+ years) then youve come to accept that every few years the program changes. While it usually brings on a lot of different emotions from members alike rest assured that this new program, in reality, is not really that new. I have been lucky enough to have access to the changes since late August and following this new myWW program. I personally am loving these changes, I really struggled with freestyle and felt a little robbed on my points. I have been following the green program which is, in my opinion, the same as the older program known as smart points beyond the scale. If freestyle is working great for you and you love it, good news, you can stay on it! Read on to learn more about this new program and what it means for my recipes..
What is myWW? When it comes to losing weight, everyone has different needs. Thats why on the new myWW you can choose between three equally effective weight loss plans that are best for your needs, behaviors, and goals. Like everything at WW, this new program is backed by science, so you feel confident you are on the right plan for you.
As a WW member you know yourself and the program better than anyone else could so that is why you will be able to choose between three plans Green, Blue, and Purple each with their own unique list of ZeroPoint foods and daily SmartPoints budget. Look out for our suite of tools in-studio, in-app, and in your inbox that will give you all the guidance you need to choose the right plan for you.
The new myWW is weight loss your way.
The new food program has been designed as a more personalized approach to weight loss and overall wellness. WW understands that everyones needs are different. This approach will exemplify that:
With that, current members will have the option to choose between three programs, called: Green, Blue, and Purple.
Green: Think old Smart Points beyond the scale.. Green guides you toward a smaller list of foods that form the basis of healthy eating habits, with a sizable SmartPoints Budget to spend on other foods you love. Youll build meals and snacks around 100+ ZeroPoint foods including fruits and veggies, and track other foods that have SmartPoints values.
ZeroPoint foods on Green: Most fruits and non-starchy veggies
Blue: This is the current freestyle program as we know it Blue guides you toward a list of foods that form the basis of healthy eating habits, with a moderate SmartPoints Budget you can spend on other foods you love. Youll build meals around 200+ ZeroPoint foods including fruits, veggies, and lean proteins, and track other foods that have SmartPoints values.
ZeroPoint foods on Blue: Non-starchy fruits and veggies, eggs, skinless turkey and chicken breast, all seafood and fish, fat-free plain yogurt and soy yogurt, beans and legumes, tofu and tempeh.
Purple: This one seems very similar to the old simply filling program with a few extra perks.. Purple guides you toward a long list of foods that form the basis of healthy eating habits, with a modest SmartPoints Budget that you can spend on other foods you love. Youll build meals around 300+ ZeroPoint foods including fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains, and track other foods that have SmartPoints values.
ZeroPoint foods on Purple: Fruits and veggies, eggs, skinless turkey and chicken breast, all seafood and fish, fat-free plain yogurt and soy yogurt, fat-free cottage cheese, beans and legumes, tofu and tempeh, whole grains and whole wheat pasta, potatoes.
Weekly points will remain the same as will roll over points.
WW is giving you the freedom to choose your plan, one that best suits you and your lifestyle, you can take an assessment to find out which one is the right fit or just decide on your own. I love that you can change plans at your own convenience, however, it is probably best to at least give yourself a few weeks to try out one of the plans and if you dont feel it is working for you then switch things up and try one of the other plans.. When we get to decide our plan we feel more in control and overall make better choices throughout the day.
I am loving the Green plan, Freestyle was a hard adjustment for me that I truly feel I never really grasped full control of. I dont eat many of the zero point foods in freestyle and it made it hard to stick within my 23 daily points. The green plan allows me more points throughout the day and leaving me feeling more satisfied with my choices. While in my perfect WW world id see some older programs as options, I am still very happy with these changes and I just love that we now have choices.
So what does the new plan mean for all my recipes..heres the great thing, there are no real changes.. I currently list freestyle, Smart Points (beyond the scale) and Points Plus (old program before beyond the scale) If you are sticking to freestyle (blue program) then you will just continue to use the points listed for freestyle. If you are switching to the green program (basically old smart points beyond the scale) then you will use the SP value given in the recipe. In all of my recipes, just above the Ingredients youll see something like this *4 freestyle SP, 5SP/6PP* the first value is freestyle smart points, the second value is SP (beyond the scale) which is the same value as the green program, If you see only a SP/PP point listed that means the smart point value did not change when freestyle came out therefor the points for that recipe would be the same on both blue and green program. Moving forward I will start naming these point values per recipe by the color that matches that program.
Purple program is similar to simply filling with even more zero foods such as whole grains. I have not fully decided yet if I will list purple points on the recipes that it will effect, such as a main meal dish that has pasta in it. 3 different programs and 3 different point values can become very overwhelming to have to list them all. If there is a recipe that you want to make and you can swap out some of the ingredients to make them zero point ingredients on the purple program then my advice would be to build the recipe in the WW app to get the correct point value for that recipe if following the purple plan.
I think this is a move in the right direction for WW, the last changes with freestyle brought out a lot of frustrations for many and I firmly believe WW listened and gave their members what they wanted by giving them the choice to follow a program that best suits them.. I hope you are as happy and excited as I am with these changes.. please know I am here to help you in your weight loss journey as best I can, I do my best to provide easy and tasty recipes that I promise anyone can make, feel free to reach out if you need any help or just need someone to hear your struggles..
