Really, I cant count how many baking books I have read, how many doughs and loaves of bread I had to make to finally get to this dinner roll recipe!
One thing I have to share is that SOME recipes are truly forgiving and fool proof. So recipes like that are certainly a great starting point for baking beginners.
If youre not a beginner baker, youll know that forgiving recipes are the ones you rely on over and over again. Especially when theyre versatile like this dinner roll recipe.

DINNER ROLL RECIPE
Here a breakdown of the video step by step:
- First of all, mix the yeast with sugar and honey and let it foam (or activate for a few minutes).
- Add int he butter, egg and start mixing.
- Now youll start adding in the flour and salt.
- Knead the dough by hand or in a stand mixer until its smooth and elastic.
- Make sure your dough is still slightly sticky! This one is an important note. If the dough is dry, youll end up with dry dinner rolls. So make sure your dough is slightly sticky.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl and use ChicWrap Plastic wrap to perfectly seal the bowl.
- 2 hours later and the dough will be doubled in size.
- Then youll divide the dough in half and roll each half into a rope. At that point youll cut the rope into 2 inch pieces and then roll each in to a ball.
- Use ChicWrap parchment paper to line the baking pan so that the dinner rolls bake evenly without sticking.
- Place the rolls on to the prepared baking pan and cover one more time with ChicWrap Plastic wrap for 30 minutes before baking.

Fool Proof Homemade Dinner Rolls
Make these Homemade Dinner Rolls once and you will never reach for any other bread recipe! These are soft, pillowy fluffy and you can season them with different herbs, cheese, or spices to get a completelydifferent flavor every single time! The easiest and most versatile bread dough out there!
- 1 cup lukewarm water (( not too cold or hot, more like your body temperature))
- 2 teaspoons instant or dry yeast
- 1 tbs Honey
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons butter (soft)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (( may be 1/4 cup more or less depending on the type of flour and the level of humidity/dryness in your area))
- 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Glaze and toppings:
- 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 4 tablespoons minced herbs

In a stand mixer, measure the water, honey and add the sugar and yeast to it. Mix them up and wait for 2-3 minutes until the yeast starts to activate: the mixture will turn cloudy and may foam on the top. After that, add in the egg and butter and mix it well.
- Pour the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and begin kneading the dough in a mixer or by hand, for just a few minutes ( 4-6 minutes) until smooth but just a little sticky when you press your finger deep into the dough. Add a little extra flour if you feel the need to, but hesitate to add too much. It might feel challenging but it needs to be worked fast (if by hand) until it doesnt stick to the surface anymore.

Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, dry place ( like inside your oven while it is shut off). It may take 1-2 hours depending on how warm your home is that day. You will see it double in size and thats how its ready.
- Remove the dough from the oven and preheat it to 350 degrees.
- In the meantime shape your dough to your desired size and thickness, and cover it back with plastic wrap for another 30 minutes while the oven is preheating.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the butter mixture.
- Bake in the oven on a middle rack for 30 minutes (depending on the size of your rolls) until nice and golden. Once the rolls are ready, brush them with extra butter mixture.
